On 15 December 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, opened this afternoon at the Farnesina the works of the fourth and last meeting for the presentation of the ‘Turismo delle Radici’ project.
The event was attended by mayors, deputy mayors and councillors of municipalities under 6,000 inhabitants from the regions of Calabria, Lombardia, Sardegna, Sicilia and Veneto.
‘Today we are concluding the cycle of meetings at the Farnesina to share and deepen, together with local realities, the preparation of initiatives for 2024, the Year of Italian Roots in the World,’ said Tajani. ‘We have found very strong appreciation and interest from the territories for the Tourism of Roots project, an extraordinary opportunity to enhance and promote the excellence of local realities and Italian know-how. It is an essential part of our strategy of growth diplomacy’.
The ‘Turismo delle Radici’ project will enable Italian descendants and oriundi to discover the small villages and rural areas at the origin of the Italian migratory phenomenon, building an authentically local tourist offer that will allow them to appreciate the beauty, culture and age-old traditions of the villages from which their ancestors left.
