Rosa, the life of an italian immigrant.

Rosa’s story symbolizes the countless untold stories of women who have been forgotten by history – often because of illiteracy, language barriers, shame, or simply because they were women. It is the story of many Italian-American descendants today who can now connect with their roots and identity through this narrative.

What follows is the story of Rosa’s journey – from Cuggiono to the United States – and the book that waited over thirty years to bring her story back home.

Welcome home, Rosa!

The travel map of Rosa’s journeys throughout her life.

A powerful initiative launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, aimed at supporting Italian descendants in reconnecting with the places of their ancestors and empowering local communities to celebrate their migration stories. From this ambitious initiative emerged Italea.com, a dedicated portal for so-called “roots journeys”—a collection of experiences, itineraries, and workshops designed for Italian descendants eager to rediscover and embrace their heritage.
