The experience
Situated in the heart of Lake Iseo, Monte Isola stands as a pearl and serves as the birthplace of the culture of net production.
This past of extraordinary socio-economic and anthropological value is documented in the Net Museum, located in Porto di Siviano. The museum is privately owned and is located within the oldest net factory in Monte Isola, now home to the ‘Retificio La Rete’. Created as a tribute to this tradition, the museum showcases a diverse collection, including documents, tools like the needle (called ‘ocia’) – the primary instrument for hand-weaving nets, and a permanent photographic exhibit featuring historical black-and-white images that chronicle the island’s centuries-old primary activities, alongside fishing.
